A common passion for old school rock’n’roll. Two artists that knows how to play. Two artists that doesn't. Meet the latest on the Danish rock stage: FÖRTRESS.
The story about FÖRTRESS goes way back and has its roots in Bornholm and Nordjylland, where four different guys path's crossed. The band is still very new, eventhough they atheived in no time results one could only dream about; A record deal with Warner Music, number of support gigs for highly approved Danish and international bands, opening gig at Danish festival Smukfest, a sync-deal with Levis and an EP that went in #3 on iTunes.
To get a real understanding of FÖRTRESS’ journey, we're turning back the time a year and a half. In a nursery on Nørrebro, Simon and John meets. They know each other from childrens screaming and diaper changing, where suddenly a common vision to bring back the rock to the Danish people accures. Simon has played the guitar in 13 years and has tried with singing. But his real talent is songwritting. John can't play, but is good at writting lyrics. It's a small start, but enough for the two effecient guys. Simon plays next to working with the band By The Patient and the same way as in the nursery gathered the first members of FÖRTRESS, the band practice room in Amager gathers the rest. Simon's band shares the room with the band Cacafogo and from it, Cato and Nicklas are recruted for the mission. FÖRTRESS begins to take shape. But there's a long way yet, since half the band doesn't know any instruments. In the band practice room, Simon teaches John a couple of basic bass-accords, Cato begins on the drums and the guitarist Nicklas realise his true calling as a vocal talent. During a drunk evening, the practice room records FÖRTRESS improvisation punk, 'Vampire Pussy', which becomes released on the web.
Less than two Months after the band began to practice together, FÖRTRESS goes on stage as a warm-up gig for a soldout concert with Specktors at a Danish concertplace, Pumpehuset. The reactions were overwhelming.
Leading up to the bands first concert, consisting of four songs, FÖRTRESS was contacted by a number of companies: Cheff Records and Pato Siebenhaars Black Cheese Records wanted to sign up with the four guys. It's the hiphop-godfather Pato that get's the contract before the band signs up with Warner music in March 2013.
Directly on #3 on iTunes
The bands first official release is a nostalgic contribute to old school rock and the EP 'Of Bones' was also released on a old school cassette tape. FÖRTRESS’ first song Howl, chosen as the first single, leads the guys to the Danish radiostation P6's award 'Thank you Rock' campagne and becomes the soundtrack for a Levis’ commercial for their new skateboard collection. A hype around the band starts spreading in the Danish underground and FÖRTRESS' EP was soon after released in summer 2013. The EP went straight in #3 on iTunes.
Great results despite of the fact, that FÖRTRESS is created as a liveband and their energetic, cheeky and epic rock encourrages intrest amongst established artists. The nursery was replaced with a stagefloor and the four friends goes on a tour as a warm-up gig for The Floor is Made of Lava. The band delivers and more offers follows, where the band suddenly is a part of Nephew's afterparty tour and does warm-up gigs for names like Kvelertak and Bam Margera.
With the brand ”The ones to watch”, FÖRTRESS is, after a short period of time in the studio, ready to publish their second release LEGENDS. With the five new songs on the EP, the band is even more keen to go all the way. John, Nicklas, Cato and Simon has never been more determined, and what startet as a fun idea between four friends is now an ambitious vision about creating rock that contributes the legends of the past, but also a personified sound and genre. The release of Legends hit Friday the 13th december 2013.
Nicklas Alexander Kirchert: Lead vocal and guitar
Simon Sonne Andersen: Guitar (backing vocal + composer)
John Blicher Madsen: Bas (backing vocal + lyrics)
The band was formed in 2010 and consist of five experienced guys from Aarhus, who earlier has played everything from surf to death, and now are determined to breakthrough the Danish metal wall. They have alot of experience together, and in a short period of time, they've made a solid expression, based on equal enthusiasm by playing metal.
I’LL BE DAMNED plays GOD DAMNED ROCK’N’ROLL - melodical, straightforward and energetic, which is especially expressed in the bands explosive live performances.
